We at CIS Abroad are proud to be part of the CANIE Accord commitment of sustainability and decarbonizing actions. CANIE, short for Climate Action Network for International Educators, is a volunteer-run organization looking to further action and commitment in the industry. CIS Abroad has made several commitments as part of this initiative and we are looking for students to help further this mission. Do you have a passion for sustainability? If so, we encourage you to apply for our Go Green Scholarship!
Recipients will be required to share their commitment toward sustainability abroad through a photo testimonial. Students may also choose to volunteer on-site or join a related club on campus that relates to sustainable efforts.

We understand first-generation students face additional barriers to studying and interning abroad. In fact, many staff members at CIS Abroad are also first-generation college students. Recipients will be required to share their personal experience as a first-generation student abroad through a photo testimonial.
This award is intended to benefit students of color, who are traditionally underrepresented within education abroad. We aim to widen the diversity of our community of interns and students abroad and foster equity in access to these experiences. If you identify as biracial, multiracial, Black, African & African American, Caribbean American, Latinx / Chican@ / Hispanic, Asian & Asian American, Native, Pacific Islander, or another minoritized racial/ethnic identity not listed, we invite you to apply. In your application essay, tell us about how your identity will impact your experience abroad.
Recipients will be required to share their personal experience as a student of color abroad through a photo testimonial.
This award is intended for students within the LGBTQIA+ community. Studying abroad as an LGBTQIA+ or gender nonconforming student brings an additional set of challenges and options to consider. We’ve surveyed our program partners and collected feedback from participants to provide a set of LGBTQIA+ friendly programs. You may also want to do your own research to help determine where you’re most likely to thrive. Our LGBTQIA+ students have amazing experiences abroad and often find local LGBTQIA+ communities to be a part of.
Recipients will be required to share their personal experience as a LGBTQ+ student abroad through a photo testimonial.
Created to honor CIS Abroad's founder, Jeff Palm, and to celebrate our 25th anniversary, this scholarship supports students who embody an entrepreneurial spirit, a commitment to community, and an “attitude of gratitude.” The scholarship will be awarded each semester to a student who is a Pell Grant Recipient, or has demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to students who are the first in their family to attend college and/or are majoring or minoring in business. Applicants will be asked to highlight their experiences in entrepreneurship, community involvement, and how they envision bringing these values to their time abroad and then back to their home community after.

FAQ
What is the TRIO Program? “The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs” (from the Federal TRIO – Home Page on the U.S. Dept. of Education Website).

You will know that you are a TRIO student if you participated in one of the TRIO programs in middle school or high school (e.g. Upward Bound or Talent Search) and/or if you receive assistance from a TRIO program on your college campus from an office of Student Support Services, for example.
